Was it righteous for Robin Hood to steal from the rich?

You could argue that a progressive tax system is a modern-day Robin Hood system. People earning less are taxed less and receive welfare benefits from the higher earning people who are taxed more. It's a good system in that it helps the poor but too much istance can lead to weakening an economy.
