How do i ask a friend out on a date, and maybe more.?

OK, I've been friends with this guy for just under a year and i am developing some new feelings for him. We only have two cles together but are constantly talking. His best friend hates me and is trying to undermine any relationship that could possibly occur but he's a really sweet guy and I think he might like me. Whenever he sees me he gives me a huge hug and smiles at me for the entire period. We're both really clumsy and the last time i knocked into him he held me close for a prolonged period of time. Then he was apologizing like crazy and asked me if i was alright at least five times. I asked him to go with me to the movies and he said yes but seemed really unsure about it. How do I ease a guy into a relationship without being too forward?
